DAY 17: Answering Queries

The very moment I woke up, a smile drew itself upon my face as I began to realize the implications of today being a Monday. First of all, this is our last day in the ISAIS which means that tomorrow we would be moving on to our very last station. Second, this is the last Monday that we would be having a shift, third and most importantly, this commences the last week of our internship. After this Friday, we would be finished with the requirement and we would have a week-off to enjoy the remaining days of vacation. I got up to prepare myself for the incoming final week.

JULY 10, 2017 - MONDAY

After today, we would be completing at least 24 hours of service to the ISAIS meaning we only have an hour left tomorrow. I headed to the section where Edward and I decided that we would once again split the day manning the information desk; he would be manning it during the AM shift and I would sit there for the afternoon. While he was doing his work for the day, I spent the morning catching up to any backlogs that I need to address immediately. One of them was to answer the homework given to us by the cataloging section. I don’t have access to the LC Subject Headings at home which is why I did the last page of my homework here as I have already done two of them at home. It was definitely easier to use the Classification Web rather than browsing through the resource at a time.

Another task I have left was the ProQuest cataloging. When I have left it, I still had to insert the accession numbers of the books I had cataloged. I wasn’t able to do it before because for some reason the account that I had used would not allow me to edit the catalogs I have done the day before (probably because they were two different accounts). I brought up the necessary web pages, asked for an iLib account and began my work. I managed to finish all of my backlogs even before lunch time.
I had a problem though, maybe because I was so excited of this week being our final week that I have left my time card at home which is why I decided to retrieve during our break. I only had an hour so I made sure to move fast, go home, get the time card and head back. Thankfully, I was able to do this with almost ten minutes to spare.

For the afternoon, Edward and I switched places and I manned the information desk. I was answering phone calls and running errands for Ma’am Rizalyn such as delivering documents from and to the Cataloging section. I was also checking constantly for any new mail. I was able to reply to some phone calls and an e-mail for today. I continued the day with these tasks to handle as well as doing other things needed as requirements.

I Feel So Powerful Sitting Here

At the end of the day, I was able to complete all of the requirements for the ISaIS: encoding, cataloging and answering query. I felt accomplished once I was able to do all of these. Now I only have an hour left for tomorrow.

Let’s hope I’ll finish this week without complications.
