The Conclusion
The Filipinas Heritage Library served as practically my home for the past month which is why it was quite a bittersweet moment to finally visit it as intern for the very last time.
It was a Wednesday afternoon when I attended the talk on handling museum materials. I knew by then that this would probably be my very last attendance as an intern. It was also the very last time I would be turning in my ID for a volunteer name tag, something which I have been doing for the past few weeks. After doing that, I headed to the talk where I was given an Ayala Museum kit! They were even serving coffee, popcorn and brownies.
I have learned a lot in the few hours we have talked about museum work and being a curator. We discussed the different kinds of museums and the intricate process involved in being one, both creative and business. It provided another career opportunity for us looking into our professional career. During the short fifteen minute break, we headed to the library to get our requirements. Upon being given our certification, we thanked our supervisors and she asked us to take pictures with the other interns afterwards.
The second half of the talk was interesting. We were taught how museums decide on showcasing or displaying their pieces. I was surprised to learn that there was actually mathematics involved in the process. Best part is that we were given hands-on experience with this. We volunteered to do so. We were given measuring tools, hooks and other materials. We even learned how to handle these artworks properly. By the end of the day, it was a learning experience. Before we leave, we took pictures with all of the interns and bade them proper farewell. It was quite sad knowing that there would be next time.
Final Thoughts
To be honest, I didn't think I would be attached to my internship. I wanted it to be over before I even started. Now, it's even difficult to say goodbye. Part of the reason is I particularly enjoyed the tasks given to me. Even with the menial task of scanning, I find something interesting from it. Some tasks I find really compelling especially event-planning and organizing exhibits. I learned a lot in the weeks I have been there. Most importantly, I discovered things about myself and the future career path I might be taking. I can say that this has helped me understand better what I want in life.
A greater part of the reason why I didn't want to leave was the people. All the people I've worked with, all the people I have been friends with. It was actually wonderful. We have gotten close to our supervisors as well as our co-interns.
One thing I can promise is that I will forever keep the memories and the lessons close to my heart. I'm thankful that I took this subject. I'll be signing off for now.
See you for future entries!
