As the final days of our OJT draws near, I couldn't help but be sentimental over the smallest details during this week. Of course, there is the fact that this would be our last Tuesday but what really struck me was that today we would be moving on to our final station. After our stay at the Filipiniana station, we would be done. No more getting excited over what station we would be going to next. I have to say, looking forward to the next station was part of the fun during our OJT. However, all good things must come to an end and that includes our internship. It was today that it really struck me: this is the beginning of the end.
JULY 11, 2017 - TUESDAY
Even though we had already committed at least 24 hours to the ISAIS, we still had an hour left for work. It was during this final hour that I discovered that one of the books I have cataloged had suddenly disappeared from the iLib record. I immediately went into a panic and hurried to catalog again my missing record. It was really weird how the record simply vanished. Because I was able to familiarize myself with the MARC tags before, cataloging it again wasn't that difficult. I finished this task after fifteen minutes. Another one of the requirement in the ISAIS was to write down a 100-word feedback about the librarians that have trained us in the section. I decided that now would be the perfect time to do it so that I wouldn't need to worry about it later.
We should have finished with our shift by 9AM but we decided to stay for another hour and leave by 10AM. It was also during this time that I submitted my cataloging homework that I have done yesterday and last weekend. Afterwards, we left the library, planning to return at 1PM. We have stayed a bit at the New SLIS Building but I left early in order to do some errands and have lunch. Before 1PM, we headed down to the Filipiniana to begin our shift.
Just as we arrived, we were oriented as to what would be our tasks. I was asked to return to the shelves all of the books that have been borrowed. I arranged them first alphabetically in the cart and then returned them back to their locations. I was enjoying this task which I have done for the first two hours of my afternoon shift. At this section, I discovered that we are supposed to rotate tasks every other hour. I was able to return all of the books from the cart during my turn. My next task was to shelfread and arrange the books in their placements and make sure that they have been arranged in the correct order. I continued where Tricia left off and began my task. My final task of the day was to check the list of their collection and verify if it is on their record. This is what I have been doing at the final hour of that day's shift. By the end of the day, I was able to shelve at least 40 books and encode at least 40 titles.
I can't help but count how many days left before we end our internship.
Let's just hope the days roll quick! Just kidding!
