THE BALLAD OF WEEK TWO

After quite a long weekend, I was energized again to continue my internship. However, I was not able to attend the first half of my shift that Monday because I had a prior commitment hosting an event. I made it sure though that after that, I would go straight to the library to continue the second half of my shift. I wasn't afraid because I had already asked for their permission a week before.

June 18, 2018 - Monday

As I arrived, I was informed that we would be heading to the preservation room. This excited me because I am particularly interested about archiving, it being my elective of choice. We were taught how to look for any type of damage such as tears and creases then how to remedy them. I definitely learned a lot during this and the most fun part was I was able to chat with Jasmine, my co-intern while we were working. There isn't a lot of opportunities where we get to do that. We continued with the task until I ended my shift by 6PM.

June 19, 2018 - Tuesday

The following day, I was back on my regular schedule. That day was a considerably normal day. For the first half of the day, I continued and finished the records I was scanning. An interesting occurance that day was that it was the first time I had lunch by myself because for the last few days, I always had my co-intern eat with me. It was not too bad because I was able to have time for myself.

That afternoon, I was assigned to do what every librarian-in-training feared of: cataloging. Though I was reluctant at first, with proper training and guidance, I was able to accomplish the task. I was cataloging serials and was also assigning subject headings. It was quite tedious but I was able to finish by 5:30 PM.

June 20, 2018 - Wednesday

Wednesday, finally the middle of the week. I decided to leave home early because I was always 30 minutes late. Surprisingly I arrived an hour and a half earlier than my shift. I finally had time to lie down a bit and rest while waiting for 8AM. I was able to stroll in the park for a while, taking in fresh air while having a sip of coffee. In the morning, I continued with cataloging until I was able to catalog at least two years worth of serials. Funny because the things discussed in LIS62 was coming back to me for some reason. I continued the task until my lunch break. For the afternoon, Jasmine and I switched tasks bringing me back to digitization. I continued with the scanning until the rest of my shift.

Cataloging woes

June 21, 2018 - Thursday

Thursday was quite uneventful as we just switched roles from the morning and then again by the afternoon and back however the highlight of that day was that the Museum conducted an emergency drill and we all got to participate. It was exciting because we felt like we were actually part of the staff.

June 22, 2018 - Friday

The next day, we were quite excited because we would only be working for half the shift due to us volunteering to help with the SLIS graduation. Surprisingly, we were tasked to man the front desk of the library for the morning as they would be having a meeting at the same time. Daunted but at the same time, ecstatic. We took on the challenge. Before we went on though, we had to answer several queries that a client might ask. Ma'am Ayson taught us of the correct way to answer those and we definitely learned much. I continued cataloging whilst I was in the desk and Jasmine was there with me as well. It didn't take long until we have to go and rush to the venue of the graduation.
